			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<!-- Start Shareaholic LikeButtonSetTop Automatic --><!-- End Shareaholic LikeButtonSetTop Automatic --><p>I recently picked up this Yamaha DT175c 1976 from a bloke in Perth, he had stripped it down to fix it up sometime in the early 80&#8242;s and had been lying in his loft since!</p>
<p><span id="more-1173"></span>I have had the frame and cycle parts powdercoated, by P &amp; J Powdercoaters at thornliebank, Glasgow, and as usual they did a superb job, I have rebuilt the front wheel with a NOS front rim and NOS spokes,</p>
<p>I&#8217;m currently waiting on spokes to rebuild the back wheel, forks have been rebuilt, along with the engine, rebore and new piston, bearings, seals gaskets etc, and done quite a bit of polishing,</p>
<p>I will update the gallery with some newer pics soon, as I am quite far on into the rebuild just now and almost have a rolling chassis!</p>

<p>Ive recently bought 2 FJ1200&#8242;s I bought them quite cheap as they are in a bit of a sorry state, Theres a 93 model and an 87 model,<br />

I plan to fix up the 93 model back to &#8220;Standard&#8221; and the older one (Which i think looks better!) I&#8217;m hoping to make into a custom rat/chopper type bike. I think the older 87 bike looks far better, with the alloy swingarm, antidive forks, nicer wheels with polished rims etc. Don&#8217;t laugh, but I&#8217;m planning on building the 87 bike with a zombie theme&#8230;lol,, thinking of building a zombie face onto the tank&#8230; Watch this space!</p>

<p>I have already stripped the 93 down to the frame, it was a bit of a struggle, a lot of stiff bolts, but, touchwood, i havent stripped or snapped any bolts so far. I had the engine running, cleaned the carbs and sorted out the wiring, I eventually got it running nice once i sorted the wiring to the coils.</p>

<p>Man,,, this has been the quickest build ever,,, 4 weeks to get to the point you can see in the pics below,,,, I stripped it to the frame, painted the frame, engine, wheels, swingarm, forks, discs etc. started to polish the rims, polished the footpeg hangers etc,, i just used halfords aerosols, but went over it with a proper lacquer from the paint shop using the airgun,, looks not too bad, and should be quite tough., got the chassis rolling again, exhausts mounted, subframes etc.,,</p>
<p>the throttle cable is kinda holding me back from bolting more bits on&#8230;.. plenty to do in the meantime,,, still got the plastics to paint, and a couple of repairs here and there,, im goni repaint the silver colour on the plastics and tank, and re-lacquer all the plastics and tank,, should look minted when done&#8230;. hopefully in about 2 or 3 weeks&#8230;. come on the good weather!!!!!!,,, im hoping the second gear will be ok i haven’t drove the bike since i bought it in boxes!!, ive been reading a few articles saying how weak it is, hopefully the 93 engine should be ok,,</p>

<p>Heres a short video of the first start up video&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;..loads of smoke,, but this is the paint burining away from the exhausts and the engine,,, i had a wee bottle of wine to celebrate&#8230;lol,,, so if my spelling is off,, you know why&#8230;lol&#8230;</p>

<p>This time I&#8217;ve managed to get my hands on a <strong>1975 Suzuki GT250m</strong> with <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_GT_series">RAM AIR System</a>, twin cylinder, 2 stroke<br />

<h2><strong>Stage 1: Analysis</strong></h2>
<p><small>Aug &#8211; Sept 2010</small></p>
<p>I bought the bike at the end of Aug 2010, in the purchase I got a lot of spare parts, some that would be fix-able or usable and some that wouldn&#8217;t, When I got the bike to the shed I had a right good look over it, when I removed the head and barrels it all looked well, it had been re-sleeved and rebored at some point, and new pistons had been fitted, although one of the pistons the rings were stuck, I had the engine running before stripping it and it was quite smokey, so I opted to split the cases and check the crank seals, the outer bearing on the clutch side had collapsed!!, I managed to source a good 2nd hand bottom end and rebuilt the engine using good parts from both engines, but still retaining the original case with the all important engine number&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Stage 2: Strip Down</strong></h2>

<p>The entire bike is currently stripped, going to get power coated, all other items have been catalogued and recorded, I&#8217;ve managed to source lots of spare parts for the bike from the likes of ebay and scrapyards,</p>

<h2><strong>Stage 3: Powder Coating</strong></h2>

<h2><strong></strong><strong>Stage 4: First start up video!</strong></h2>
<p style="text-align: left;">I have finished the engine, mounted it in the frame, set the timing, balanced the carbs, primed the 2 stroke system, and fired her up, sounds sweeeeet.</p>

<h2><strong>Stage 5: Rebuild time!</strong></h2>
<p>Ive been busy lately, I bought another bike for spares, not sure of the model, but loads of useful spares, I have used the rear mudguard, front mudguard, front wheel rim, and there will e other bits and bobs I can use. The front wheel has been rebuilt using new spokes and the rim from the donor bike, I have cleaned the forks and fitted new seals, I have loads of wee jobs still to do. here&#8217;s some more pics taken tonight. <h2><strong></strong><strong>Stage 6: Just about finished!</strong></h2>
<p>Thats it nearly finnished, all thats left to do now is fit brake pads to the front, bleed the brake and buy and fit reflectors and a few decals.</p>

it will still need run in, its like a brand new engine now.<br />

<p>I stripped the head off and found 6 of the inlet valves were seized open, I found a 2nd hand cylinder hear on eBay for £50!! so I&#8217;m just waiting on the head gasket, that was another £50! The cylinder head just arrived tonight so im going to strip it to make sure it is ok.</p>
<p>hopefully rebuild it possibly using some of the shims from the old head to set the clearances, I have already cleaned the pistons and they look to be in pretty good shape, anyway, here are some pics, I hope to keep you updated as i go along, im planning to powder coat the wheels ans possibly the frame etc, I was thinking of gold wheels and blue tank etc, but im wouldn&#8217;t mind some suggestions for colour choices!</p>

<p>Well, I tried what you were saying and used some 800 then some 1200 wet and dry to clean up the pipes then polished with some auto sol, its just about finished, just a few wee snagging jobs left, like fitting a new speedo cable, I had a quick shot today and it felt superb,,, going like the clappers&#8230;.. only problem is though that the oil light is coming on when the engine is idling!!!! im going to have to have a look at the oil pump i think?<br />

Included with the bike was a few boxes containing no less than 2 engines, which were all completely stripped down to nothing,this gave shug a chance to start his magic, working on each side casing for the bike, he started off by de-greasing all the parts using a small toothbrush to get into the nooks and crannies,</p>

<p>After a few hours, lots of de-greaser, some spray paint, the engine started to take shape,</p>

<p>looking back over the previous posts, looking at the pictures its hard to believe this was the same bike which was loaded into lots of buckets and left to waste.. but once again shugtech worked his magic and restored this brilliant crazy bike back to its former glory&#8230;</p>
<p>This project took  just over a month to complete, including getting the engine building it up and restoring the frame, adding the plastics, getting the seat all re-covered and wired up. I have to say the decal kit looks amazing, agasint the white frame, the cr 85 exhaust bolted on the back just sets it off and gives it just a brilliant ring to it when its started up.</p>
